about

In May 2018 we convened in NZ to record but, before that, to play shows. Was a big deal for us. Although we had an album, Fun Dots, ready for release in NZ, we hadn't played live together since our post punk days more than 2 decades previously. The 1st show, at the Pyramid Club in Wellington, was tentative but, 2/3 of the way through, we started to nail it. Then the fire alarm went off and the venue evacuated. I had to tell the audience that the siren sound wasn't us.

The 2nd show, at James Gilbert's fine gallery, Photospace, was much better, expressed in one 45 minute continuous piece driven by drones and elastic percussive noise. We were really happy with that show and a chunk of it is captured here. We hope you like it.

about

The Raw Materialists Northland, New Zealand

Kevin Kermack & Scott McFarlane are UK & NZ Post-Punk, Ambient, Tape Manipulation & Noise veterans who resumed activity in 2015 after a long hiatus. Living at opposite ends of the planet means opportunities to record are marathon sessions, with the resulting raw material dissected, edited & reassembled into the electroacoustic Ambient, Drone & Concréte sounds that we love.
We hope U like it too.
